Life at the Street Level

No car noise. No commute. Just the street.

The entire town surface is car-free. Every street is a pedestrian street. The loudest sound on an URBAL avenue is a bicycle bell. Community is not a program. It is the default state of the built environment.

Mobility

Movement Without the Machine

The removal of the private automobile from the town surface is not a restriction — it is a design decision that returns roughly 60% of urban land to human use. Streets become places. Intersections become plazas. The daily experience of moving through the town is fundamentally different.

Aerial Gondolas

Swyft Cities aerial gondola network connects all gateways. Silent, continuous, above the street. Gateway-to-gateway service eliminates the need for ground transit for longer journeys.

Bicycle Infrastructure

Dedicated bicycle lanes throughout the town grid. No conflict with vehicle traffic — because there is no vehicle traffic. A bicycle on an URBAL street has full priority.

Electric Car Fleet

For off-town trips, an electric rental fleet is housed in the outer wall. Car maker and rental operator are selected by steward vote and compete annually to stay.

Walking as Default

The town is designed so that every resident is within a 3-minute walk of a grocery, pharmacy, café, school, and healthcare clinic. The car is never the fastest option inside the town.

Green Infrastructure

Gardens Engineered for Use

URBAL's green space is not landscaping. It is the structural perimeter of the residential blocks — enclosed, tended, and inhabited by the stewards who live alongside it. The model is the Tuileries Garden in Paris: not a park you visit, but a garden you live inside.

8

Linear Gardens

90 ft × 2,450 ft each — running parallel to the outer wall between the residential perimeter and the garden fence.

4

Large Square Gardens

250 × 250 ft — modeled on the Place des Vosges. Chestnut trees, open green space, perimeter walking paths.

8

Sports Field Parks

1,300 × 250 ft each — for organised and informal sport. Every steward is within a 5-minute walk.

Tuileries Fence

Garden Standard

Limestone block base with ornate wrought iron. Every garden plot is enclosed. The fence is both structure and landmark.

Third Places — T6 Zone

The Spice Strips

The 160 ft between each URB block is not leftover space. It is activated as Spice Strips — named commercial and cultural corridors where every business is selected by steward vote and competes annually for renewal.

Narrow Spice Strips (T6-N)

720 × 40 ft • 1–3 stories

12 strips per town

Named Oregano, Red Chilli, Basil, Nutmeg — three of each type. Small retail, kiosks, eateries, workshops. Buildings permitted at 10×10, 20×20, and 40×40 ft. No large cultural buildings.

Wide Spice Strips (T6-W)

720 × 80 ft • 1–4 stories

12 strips per town

Named Ginger, Cinnamon, Cayenne, Clove — three of each. The 80×80 ft (4-story) building in each wide strip is reserved exclusively for cultural anchors: opera, ballet, arts, museum, or cinema.

489 buildings

Total third-place structures across 24 strips

1,392,000 sqft

Total community space — not a single sqft is chain-gated or privately closed

Annual vote

Every business re-competes every September. No tenure. No legacy leases. Stewards decide.

Professional Community

Every Professional Is a Neighbor

Every professional who serves the town — physician, teacher, security officer, nurse — is an LLC contractor who lives in the town as a steward. Your doctor is your neighbor. Your child's teacher lives on your street. This is structural, not aspirational.

Role Ratio Per Town
Physicians 4 per 1,000 100 LLCs
Nurses 3 per physician 300 LLCs
K–12 Teachers 1 per 12 students 417 LLCs
Security + Fire 3 per 1,000 75 total

The Design of Belonging

Community isn't scheduled.
It's engineered into the street.

Narrow 18 ft Auburn lanes make street life unavoidable — the buildings are close enough to make conversation the natural state. Colonnade ground floors on the outer wall invite lingering in any weather. Garden fences frame outdoor living as the norm, not the exception. The car-free surface means walking is the only way — which means encounter is the only outcome.
