For Businesses
25,000 customers. No commuters.
Every URBAL steward lives, works, and spends within one square mile. No drive-by traffic. No tourists. A captive, high-income, community-selected customer base that voted for your business before you opened.
Physical Locations
Every Business Has a Place
Business locations are determined by category. Each location type competes independently.
The Third Places — Spice Strips
489 Buildings. All Community. All Competed.
The Spice Strips are the commercial heart of the town. 24 named corridors run between the URB blocks — activated, curated, and voted on by stewards every September.
Narrow Spice Strips (T6-N)
720 × 40 ft · 12 strips · 1–3 stories
Oregano, Red Chilli, Basil, Nutmeg — three of each. Permitted: 10×10, 20×20, 40×40 ft buildings. Ideal for: cafés, workshops, kiosks, small retail, bakeries, barbers.
Wide Spice Strips (T6-W)
720 × 80 ft · 12 strips · 1–4 stories
Ginger, Cinnamon, Cayenne, Clove — three of each. The 80×80 ft (4-story) anchor building is reserved for: opera, ballet, arts venue, museum, or cinema. All other sizes available for any approved use.
Cultural anchor buildings (opera, ballet, museum, cinema) are the only category that occupies the 80×80 ft slot. This is non-negotiable in the Form-Based Code.
The Mainstay — Annual Renewal
No Tenure. No Legacy Leases.
Every business re-competes every September at the Quiet Council vote. Stewards flag underperforming businesses in July. Those that don't improve appear on the December removal ballot. High-performing businesses earn renewal automatically.
